Isis Cyclists 10th Anniversary Weekend 2018

On 7th June 2008 a group of women cyclists got together to take part in ‘Five Miles to Fabulous’, a national event aiming to encourage more of us to take to two wheels. Since then, Isis Cyclists has kept pedalling, and we are now one of the largest and most active women’s cycling groups in the country. Come and join us at a special event to celebrate the group’s 10th birthday, where we have booked ourselves into a large manor house in the Chiltern hills in South Oxfordshire to enjoy a weekend of cycling together.

Braziers Park is about 17 miles from Oxford near the pretty village of Ipsden, and lies in its own private parkland surrounded by woods. It offers us fantastic cycling in an area we don’t normally reach on Isis rides. For more about the venue, visit the Braziers Park website.Buttercups

Friday 13 July (leaving Oxford midday) to Sunday 15 July (arriving back 5pm approx.)

We will cycle out as a group on Friday afternoon, splitting into faster and slower groups, and finding quiet roads out of the city. The ride length will be just over 24 miles. On Saturday, you can choose between medium or longer rides, with the option to visit historic houses and churches, Henley on Thames, nature reserves etc.. You can then return, taking different routes back into the city, on Sunday.

Braziers has 15 good-sized rooms with shared bathrooms, though almost all have washbasins. The house is clean and comfortable and has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It is home to a small community of around half a dozen, who grow their own vegetables and host a variety of events throughout the year. They will cater for us, although we are asked to help with clearing dishes. We will have the dining room to ourselves, and two other spaces for relaxing or activities such as yoga or stretching, plus access to the extensive parkland around the house.

Braziers has several outbuildings and barns, and a large camping field. We have been offered sole use of the orchard, a few minutes’ walk from the house, with composting loos and hot showers on the main campsite a few minutes away.

The weekend will include dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. The community prides itself on a high standard of home-cooked food. A good deal of the produce for the table is grown on Braziers’ estate or bought from local farms and wholesalers. As far as possible, food is organic, GM free and seasonal. Most special diets can be catered for if one week’s notice is given and vegetarian meals are the norm. You can order meat for an additional £5.
